This is Michael “Slokes” Saloka. Welcome to my pet project! There’s a lot going on here, so let me walk you through it.

First, all those dots? Those are shots on net from season 5 of “George League” hockey (currently only complete data for games 1-10, and 15). The color corresponds to the team that took that shot. You can click on the team logo to see just shots from that team, or a player’s name from the list on the right to see shots from that player. Use the dropdown on the “scoreboard” to pick out a specific game, or click a goalie’s name under the net graph to see shots on that particular goalie. You can even click on an individual dot on the ice graph to see the corresponding information on the other net graph, or vice versa. This will also give you the player who shot the puck, a rough shot speed calculation, and will let you go to the youtube video of the shot (with a 5 second lead-in before the shot happens). Feel free to mix and match the filters to drill down as much as you’d like. If you want to reset the entire thing, click on the George League logo in the upper right corner.

I get all my data from the youtube channel Old Fogey Goalie, and he also helps me sort out who took which shot. For every single shot I record where the shot was taken from, the timestamp on the video, the rough placement of where the shot would be on net if the goalie didn’t make the save, and the number of frames from when the puck leaves the player’s stick to when it would approximately hit the net. It’s a lot of stuff, and there’s a lot of guesswork involved, so take all the numbers with a grain of salt. It takes me between 3-4 hours to parse out all the information for a single game, depending on the number of shots taken, and I’m sure that it takes even longer than that to edit the videos in the first place, so please be nice.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me: mssaloka@gmail.com.

Let’s do that hockey!
